Let me start by saying that out of the box, this PVR performs like junk. The firmware upgrade is essential to correct the EPG issues and maximise the viewing space of the screen to fully fill a 16:9 TV. The process to upgrade is unclear and the DGTEC website, whilst offering the software, offers no instructions. If in doubt, call them.
Once the PVR has been firmware upgraded, the experience is surprisingly solid. The EPG works well. The PVR function works well. You can record one program whilst watching another or streaming media from a PC. The wireless media player is admirable. It streams well - better when hard wired of course. It can handle mp4 and mkv, as well as the usual formats.
Menus, overall, are a little clunky.
It's not the best twin tuner PVR. You need $600 for a Tivo if that's what you're looking for. It's not the best wireless media player, you will need to fork out $135 for a WDTV Live Player ... but at $99, it's a great compromise. The 500GB WD internal SATA drive is worth almost that alone.
Pros: cheap, compact, playback quality is good
Cons: clunky menu system, not overly intuitive

I bought this last week and am very pleased with it.
very easy to connect via HDMI and antenna interface.
The EPG is basic but straightforward and the one-button record from the EPG is a dream. It has upto 32x fast forward on playback to skip all those pesky ads.
I have connected an external HDD and found that the unit had no problems playing previously stored content on multiple formats.
Pros: easy to use, playback quality is excellent

This has all the features I wanted, it is just a shame that half of them don't work!
The scheduled recording only works sometimes.
the unit locks up every couple of days and needs to be unplugged to wake it up again.
The wireless transfer for YouTube(that doesn't work either!)and other sites is so slow that it isn't worth bothering about.
After following all the instructions to update the firmware of this brand new product, and then getting the 3rd degree from the manufacturer, they decided to bring it in for repairs!
Pick up and delivery was good, but it still doesn't work any better.
So I would not recommend this or any other product of this brand.
Pros: lots of features
Cons: lots of features don't work!, keeps locking up and has to be restarted

Bought one of these this week and been using for 4 days now. Some things to consider:
* I thought 500GB would be huge, but a 30 minute TV show on HD chews up 2.7Gb! SD is obviously less. Still, I can change the hard drive to a larger one, or plug in a usb drive, so no real drama.
* Important to me was that file name is included in the program title. Easier to work out what you've got, though files are sorted by name with no option to change sort to record date or something else.
* EPG is clunky. You can set to record by pressing one button while in EPG, but EPG itself is not great. Only view one channel at a time and then have to scroll down from 12.01am through the entire day. A bit slow. I would have preferred a time based EPG showing what is on each channel at a given time, as my TV does.
* File management a bit clunky. Have to come out of the 'movies' section where you watch your recorded files to the 'file management' section (and navigate through directories) in order to get to delete a file you have just watched. Would be easier if this option was available after viewing the file.
Apart from some of those frustrations, which you cant know about until you actually start using the thing, it does exactly what it says it does with no fuss. Have not used the media player functions as my TV does all that currently.
Most importantly it is COMPACT. So many other PVR devices are the same size as a 1982 VCR. This thing is only a bit larger than a desktop hard drive.
Not a bad buy for the money. You should be able to easily negotiate something extra to be included if you're paying full RRP.
Pros: compact, pretty straightforward to use
Cons: epg slow and clunky, file management clunky

I recently purchased one of these units, and am very happy with it!
The ease of use, and the variety of accessibility
i took out the 500gb hard drive and inserted a 2TB hard drive. The use of Youtube and other apps included on the unit is just great. I was browsing around the DGTEC website and came across some upgrades for t he unit and that once you do the website upgrades, you can upgrade from the unit using the "online upgrade" function in system settings. can't wait for more great products to come.
